***Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. If you live close enough and can meet in person we will arrange that with the foster once approved. If you live outside of an area to meet in person, transport will be coordinated with you. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time.***
Sol, 8 months old, neutered male, Plott Hound/Retriever mix, he currently weighs 47 pounds but is not full grown. He is in a foster home in Tacoma, WA and is ready for meet and greets!!
This guy was saved from euthanasia at a county shelter in Houston, Texas. Due to the overwhelming amount of homeless pets, even puppies like Sully are being euthanized at alarming rates in Texas. He has been in Washington since early July and we think is loving the cooler (compared to Texas) weather.
We are estimating his age, but do think he's about 8-9 months. He will have a little more growing to do, but is very lanky. We also think he's a mixture of a number of breeds.
He is very much your typical puppy who has not had a lot of obedience training from what we can tell. He is working on learning basic commands, but is very eager to learn and is VERY food motivated. He enjoys chewing on his bones. He loves to do these zoomies where he will stop and crouch down like he wants you to chase him and then darts away from you.
Sully is an energetic puppy who will do best in a home who is moderately active. He was in a foster home with another dog in Texas and really loved playing. He does not react to passing other dogs out on walks and gives very sweet tail wags. We think he would love a playmate to engage in physical play- he is not a hard player, but likes to run, give chase etc.
We've found that the best way to describe him is skittish. When first meeting, he will hang close to the human he knows best. Sometimes it's a few minutes other times it's a few hours and then he wants to snuggle up to you. He ran into some bushes in a yard and the leaves brushed him which startled him into a run. This is what we mean by skittish- he wants to stay close to his people and is not a runner. He recovers rather quickly after he's scooted out of the way of whatever makes him nervous. He is growing in confidence everyday and another reason we think a dog in the home will be best for him.
He has pretty great house manners, he is potty trained and does not want to go into a crate, but once there he is quiet and does great. He is crated at night and when unsupervised. He walks well on leash and he's usually waving his fluffy tail. He will whine a little bit in the car, but settles down fairly quickly by either looking out the window or laying down.
One area that he will need consistency with are boundaries. He tends to "talk" or bark when he wants your attention. Sometimes this can be frequent, other times not as often. His foster mom is working on teaching him to not be so demanding of her attention.
Sully is an absolute sweetheart. He will melt into you wherever you are sitting or standing. He really does not have a mean bone in his body. He is very curious and tends to take in the world around him. He loves hugs and all the pets.
He is currently in a home with cats and has no issues with them. He was previously in a home with small children and did fine. We always recommend homes with kids who are respectful of boundaries with animals.
He would make a great buddy to run errands, go on walks, trails or hikes. Although he is shy when first meeting, he warms up quickly and wants nothing but love. He is silly at times, he has been learning to fetch and loves a good toy basket.
We are looking for a home who understands he is a puppy still learning basic obedience. A home that is willing to put in the time and energy to create a foundation for this guy to thrive. A home who will set boundaries as needed, but will also shower him with love.
Our donation covers his medical vetting and the cost to transport him.
