Tatiana - F - 5/6 years old - 25 lbs - good exposure to dogs - good exposure to cats - very shy and will need a loving family to help her come out of her shell
Tatiana arrived in Canada end of November and during her time here she has experienced all of the weather we have to offer here. She has experienced her first snowfall and has decided that it isn’t her favorite thing but she has been taking it in stride. She is literally an amazing dog in most ways, she is easy on a leash, gentle with food and taking treats, quiet and loves nothing more than to be near the people that she likes. She arrived very shut down and has taken quite a while to start to decompress. She has been very quiet and calm in the house but has started recently to become very excited when you talk to her. So parts of her real personality are starting to show and her personality appears to be very loving. When she meets new people she is very shy. She doesn’t run away but does tend to take quite some time to warm up to new people.
Since she arrived, she has been left once on her own for about 4 hours. She was non-destructive and napped while we were out.
She has met our cat and they are friends. My cat is very dog savvy though other cats may not be as well received. She has also met my small dog and tends to be interested in her initially but then wants to walk away from her. She has no real interest in engaging with other dogs yet. I have dogs that are much bigger than her but to date I have not introduced her. At this point she is still in the decompression stage and I don’t want her to become overwhelmed with their young enthusiasm. I think she would do well in a home with another dog that is around her size and is respectful of her space. With the help of a more confident dog it may help her to come out of her shell quicker.
Other than the first night she was here there have been absolutely no house training accidents. She would absolutely let herself explode before she had an accident in the house. She likes to go outside about 4 times per day for washroom breaks and will tell you in between if she needs to go out.
For Tatiana I think the perfect home for her would be one where her new person/people would be understanding of her fears and work within her timeline to fully introduce her to the world. She would be fine with people who are home all of the time or who worked outside the home. She would also do well in a home with another pet that would be considerate of her need for space. She is very quiet so she would most likely be fine living in an apartment or townhouse as well. She is still a flight risk so if in a home it should be fully fenced.
