Meet Tay
******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************
Tay, 1 years old, spayed female, Chihuahua, 11 pounds. She is in a foster home in San Antonio, Texas and can transport to an approved adopter outside of Texas.
This sweet pup was found tied up with her larger dog friend in front of a building. We have no idea how long they were for before being brought to the county shelter.
She shares a home with another dog who is about 30 pounds. Tay loves to play and will play with her friend all day if you let her. She does pick up on the other dog's cues when they are done playing. The dog she was found with is about 60 pounds, so she is not afraid of larger dogs from what we can tell. She is energetic and we think would love a dog friend to match her energy/playstyle. If no other dog in the home, please indicate how you plan to continue to socialize her with other dogs.
We have no history with cats. She shares a home with kids 1-6 years old. She bounces around when she's feeling energetic and has accidentally knocked into the 1 year old. She's very happy and great with the kids, but something to note with smaller children.
Tay is a little all over when walking on leash and could use some extra work in that area. It has been incredibly hot in Texas, so this is something not easy to work on currently. She's had some accidents and is getting better every day. We imagine she will need to be taken out consistently in a new environment and expect her to have some accidents until she figures out the new routine. She is crated when unsupervised and will cry for a minute and then settles down.
She has great house manners, has no problems sharing bones, toys, food with the other dog and rides well in the car. As mentioned, she is energetic and her primary physical outlet is playing with the other dog in the house.
It took her a few days to warm up to her foster mom and anticipate her being nervous in another new home. She is needing a person (people) who will be patient as she starts to feel comfortable and begins her decompression process. Once she feels comfortable she loves to cuddle.
