Twinkles, 1.5 years old, spayed female, Pitbull Terrier, 48 pounds. She is in a foster home in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport to an approved adopter.
Lulu as her foster parents nicknamed her is a very loving and affectionate dog. We think she was fending for herself on the streets of San Antonio where she was attacked multiple times by other dogs. She was picked up by Animal Control and taken to the county shelter.
Lulu is in a home with 4 other dogs. Her foster parents did very slow introductions knowing her history with other dogs going after her. She was able to co-mingle with the group for some time. After several months she began to play too hard with the other dogs and this eventually led to some scuffles.
She has been working with a trainer in the home. We think it is a best for her to be the only dog in the home at this time.
She matches the energy of the house and people around her. If you are excited, she is too. She has some anxiety and her foster parents have used some training exercises which helps in this area.
Lulu has worked on leash reactivity with the trainer and has greatly improved in this area. She is very smart and very receptive to training tools. She has done great with a long lead. She is fully housebroken and she does great when crated.
She is lover of people. We do not have history with kids and recommend a home with kids 12 years and older.
As mentioned earlier, she LOVES people and has zero issues with strangers or people in the home. She would love to have someone home more than they are away. Someone who will continue to work on training exercises with her. She loves going on walks and playing tug of war.
She is left out of her crate when unsupervised and has done well. She is not destructive. She is not a big fan of car rides. She loves her stuffed toys, loves kisses and cuddles.
Lulu is looking for a home where can be the only pet and receive all the affection. She has worked on muzzle training and we hope you see this is a skill/tool to help her. She does very well with exercise and looks forward to her routine. She needs a home who will provide structure and is consistent. She loves praise and would love a yard to romp around in. She is very smart and learns things very quickly.
Her foster mom had this to say about her, " We can’t stress enough how sweet Lulu is. She has taught us so much in the 7 months that we have had her. She came into ACS when I saw her beaten up. She was also abused as she flinched and coward down and would run away. When we first got her, she was barrier reactive, and we truly think that it was fear. We didn’t think she would ever be able to co-mingle. She was very sick with an upper respiratory infection that took 5 weeks for her to recover, and we weren’t sure she was going to make it. Training is really helping her, but it will have to be an ongoing effort. She loves it and it has helped us bond. She is loyal, loves people of all ages. She is truly wonderful and whomever gets to give her forever home is blessed"
