Vance has truly undergone a transformation since his rescue many months ago from the dog meat trade overseas. Dogs rescued from the meat trade often need a little more time than most to adjust to living in a home. Vance is a star pupil in our Rehabilitation & Training program, which has given him a great foundation to help kickstart his future. We're sure he'll take what he's learned here and continue to shine with that 1-on-1 attention that only an experienced family can give him. We are looking for an adult-only home, ideally with large dog experience to help him along his journey, as he may be too much of an undertaking for a first-time dog owner.
Vance is currently the largest dog at our shelter, weighing in at a whopping 135lbs! He is a little more on the reserved side when first meeting, but once he gets to know you, his tail just won't stop wagging! He is definitely a gentle giant who would never intentionally hurt a fly, but he is a big boy who often doesn't recognize his own size and strength. Big ol' Vance loves going on walks, but will need someone strong enough to keep up with him - no idle strolls here! Although he's adjusted to the city like a native, it's likely that he'd do better with some room to roam. However, time and patience will be key to help set him up for success. Thankfully, housebreaking won't be an issue as he has never had a single accident while in our care - he's a very clean and proper boy!
Vance does very well with dogs, big and small, and is not reactive on leash at all, but would likely do best as the only dog in the home so his adopters can focus their attention on his training and adjustment. If you'd like to know more about Vance, please contact Animal Haven directly.
