Meet Vanilla
Hi, I'm Vanilla!!! I'm a 2-year-old, 35 pound, all American mixed breed. My last relationship wasn't so great, but I've healed, learned to trust again and am ready to move on to bigger and better things. My idea of bigger and better is a person or family who will love me, for me, forever. Let me tell you a little about myself.....
I'm a sweet reserved little guy who likes to take a minute to make sure the people around me are safe. It's only people that I am sometimes leery of. Other dogs are what make me the happiest. One of my favorite things is a play date with my doggy friends!! Big or small, I love them all!!
I'm not much of a barker or a chewer. I like toys ok, but I'm not obsessed with them. I'm ok with car rides, I usually settle in pretty quick and lay down for the ride. I like my kennel with the door open. It gives me my own space to get away and rest some. Sometimes I prefer a sprawl out on the couch, especially if a person I like is sitting with me and giving me pets. I'm really a sweet, gentle guy who craves the goodness of the world.
Some things scare me some and I'm dealing with them. Fast sudden movements with a body or hand can cause me to flinch or retreat to under a table. I can't help but have flash backs of the old days. I've never snapped or growled at anyone, even when something scares me, I just try and make myself small under something until the scared is all gone.
My foster mom says if I were a candy, I'd be a Nerd. If I were a book, I'd be "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid". She says I'm so smart, ready to learn and eager to please; but I'm always worried about what may go wrong. She calls me Vanilla because ice-cream is her favorite dessert, and she insists that I'm sweeter than that.
I've heard the ladies say that one of the cutest things about me is the twinkle in my eye when I'm comfortable and happy.
One of my favorite places to be is lying next to my foster mom with my head on her lap while she snuggles me. I find myself staring at her, trying to figure out how to say, "Thank You". She seems to know what I'm trying to say, and it always gives me warm fuzzies inside when she cuddles me a little harder.
I'm looking for a calmer home with someone who is patient with me while I get used to somewhere new. Older children would be ok, as long as they wouldn't come at me fast or run through the house. Another dog would be my dream come true!!! Someone with confidence who could teach me the ropes and play with me throughout the day.
If you would like to get to know me, swipe back up and click on that application to adopt and we can get to know each other. Someone in my rescue family will get with you ASAP.
Please keep in mind that S.T.A.R Rescue is a foster based organization located in South Texas. STAR pets can travel throughout the country to be with the right person. Adoption fees include the cost of this travel. All of our animals are Spayed/Neutered, microchipped, current on age-appropriate vaccines (DaPP, Bordetella & Rabies) and all recommended parasite preventions.
