Meet Wallace (FIV+)
Perhaps in human terms, Wallace should’ve had his own show aptly named, Everybody Loves Wallace, because that is precisely what this sweet, hug-able big boy of approximately 4 and a half years with the cutest little chirpy meow is. All creatures big and small — be they humans, cats, dogs or bunnies — young or mature, loved this adorable cat upon meeting him, and he loves them right back with unreserved fervour and complete devotion. He prefers to be with people or other cats as much as possible. Wallace is a very vocal guy and wants to follow his human around all the time…especially when food is involved. Actually, Wallace is quite the foodie as he loves all kinds of wet and dry food, although he has been on a prescription canned and dry renal diet until further notice. He’s a good sport about it, and prefers a flavour rotation so he doesn’t get bored. Your veterinarian will let you know when it’s ok to transition him to other foods. But not to worry, as he will love them all; just be watchful as he has no qualms about taking everyone else’s food when given half a chance.
Wallace is a total ham and knows how to play it up for the benefit of the viewing audience. The way he chases the laser pointer or his catnip and crinkle toys, the shameless way he lays on his back or in your lap and show you he loves you with his paws (in a heart… see the photo), this boy knows all the tricks. He is constantly purring and loves to have conversations with his human and the other cats in the house. He lets his human carry him like a baby and he also gives little wet kisses and runs to the door to greet them, perhaps copying his canine friends?! A special talent he has is that he can flush the toilet in his foster home. No idea where he learned this but he could be a candidate for toilet training with the right patience and consistency. It’s intriguing to think what else Wallace can do…
Wallace did have a rough start to his rescue journey as he had several health concerns that seem to have been cleared up and managed by our hardworking vets and dedicated foster. He must have been eating some really junky food because his foster notices he is drawn to takeout bags and containers. Poor boy was probably scavenging for any food he could find. Well, he never has to worry about finding good healthy food anymore…which gives him more time for belly rubs and funny poses!
He is quite the charmer at the vet and cooperative with diagnostics as well as all grooming any “spaw” day can offer — brushing, nail trims, eye wipes — and if he wiggles a little, a liquid tube treat always does the trick to occupy him. He also really loves massages and a good horizontal surface to practise cat yoga stretch and scratch on.
Wallace is FIV+. Most FIV+ cats do not show symptoms and have a normal life expectancy, though they may be prone to other infections. Proper nutrition (high protein, good quality food) and regular check-ups at the vet will help to make sure he remains a happy and healthy cat. FIV is not easily transmitted to other pets (only through deep bites common with mating and NOT through litter or food). FIV+ cats MUST remain indoors to protect their long-term health. FIV kitties just have so much love to give because what they lack in T cells they make up for in heart cells.
Wallace would love to join a forever family with a menagerie of people and animals all ready to bask in the light of his special charm. More the merrier! The world doesn’t offer up extraordinary bundle of furry angels such as Wallace too often, and we are all the better for having known and loved him. You can too, experience Wallace for yourself and have your life be transformed.
