Walter, 6 months old (estimated DOB Feb 2023), neutered male, Pitbull mix, currently 45 pounds and we expect him to be a large dog when full grown. He is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and can transport to an approved adopter.
The overcrowding in Texas is so great that even puppies like Walter find themselves on euthanasia lists. We are so thankful his foster mom agreed to help him or we believe he would not be with us today!
Walter just recently turned 6 months old and has now been neutered. He shares a home with another dog and it took a little bit of adjustment when he first arrived. He really wanted all of his foster mom's attention, but with time, structure and patience he knows there is enough love to go around. He really loves his foster brother. He plays really well and is always with him. When not playing, you can find him curled up asleep.
As you can imagine, he has that normal puppy energy. He does pick up on ques from the other dog. When out on walks, he does pull a little and is excited to say hi to other dogs. We would like to see him in a home with another dog similar in size for him to continue to play/interact. Given his young age, it's vital for him to have opportunities to practice positive dog manners and socialization with other dogs.
We have no history with cats or kids. We recommend a home with kids 12 years and older.
Walter does pull on leash and is very eager to go on walks. He is very curious and follows his nose wherever it leads him. He is fully housebroken and overall does well when crated. It took a little bit of time to get him comfortable in the crate. It is important a new home is consistent with crating him. He is quick to eat his food and will wander over to his foster brother's bowl to see if he can snag any of his food. He is happy to share his toys, but is not as eager to share treats. He has no issues with humans regarding food or toys.
Walter has lots of puppy energy -he’s content to sleep if left alone but if there is stimulus around (another dog) he is very active and loves to play. Walter is very playful and likes to play with all toys – stuffed ones, squeakers, ropes for tug of war. Quick to learn with interactive treat dispensers and puzzles. He is VERY cuddly and craves affection and loves to return it ten fold. Loves to shower with kisses and quick to turn over onto his back for belly rubs.
He is friendly and happy to meet strangers. His tail wags a million miles a minute.
He loves the car and always quick to leap in – loves to look out the windows and tries to come up to sit in the front passenger seat so he is secured him in the back.
HIs foster mom has this to say about him, "Walter is the most affectionate dog I’ve ever met - he loves attention, wants to be a good boy, and is afraid of being left behind. He is a Velcro dog and likes to follow me everywhere I go (into a separate room, up/down the stairs). If he is corrected for doing something he isn’t supposed to be doing, he is quick to turn over onto his back to show his belly and ask for forgiveness. He is very eager to please and follows correction VERY well. Very trainable. He is very curious and has not expressed fear in any instances, but he is vocal when I’m using the hose or the vacuum cleaner"
